Pablo has been in the Caran d'Ache range for decades and works as the dry counterpart to the watercolour lines. The core is soft and resistant, water resistant, and lays colour down dense and velvety. No loose powder drifts across your drawing.

The core measures 3.8 mm and sits in a hexagonal barrel of FSC certified cedar wood with a gold band, finished in a water based varnish. Every pencil carries its colour number and name.

The range counts 120 bright, opaque colours. Because the core is water resistant, Pablo stays exactly where you put it, even with a wet technique laid over the top later. Penworld carries the metal boxes of 40, 80 and 120 colours. If you want the highest lightfastness with a certified standard, Luminance 6901 is the step up. For work that should wash out, reach for Supracolor Soft Aquarelle. The full range sits under Caran d'Ache Coloured Pencils, in Coloured Pencils.

Frequently asked questions about Caran d'Ache Pablo

Are Pablo pencils water soluble?

No. Pablo has a dry, water resistant core. The colour stays where you apply it, even under a wet layer. For watercolour work choose Supracolor Soft Aquarelle or Prismalo Aquarelle.

What is the difference between Pablo and Luminance 6901?

Both are permanent and will not dissolve in water. Luminance carries ASTM D-6901 certification, with 81 of its 100 colours in the top lightfastness class. Pablo also has excellent lightfastness but without that certified standard, and offers 120 colours against 100.
