Paper Republic: leather journals from Vienna

Paper Republic is a young brand built on one clear idea: a leather cover that lasts for years, and paper you simply replace once it is full. In the Vienna workshop every cover is cut and stitched by hand. The leather comes from family-run tanneries in Tuscany and is tanned with natural plant extracts, without chrome. Over time it develops its own patina, so no two covers look alike. The paper is acid-free, FSC-certified and a soft cream colour.

Grand Voyageur, Le Portfolio or Le Trifold?

Paper Republic makes three leather covers. They all work the same way: ribbons on the inside hold the notebooks in place.

• Grand Voyageur: slim and light, without pockets. For anyone looking for one journal for travel, work and everyday use. Available from us in Pocket (10.8 x 15 cm), XL (14.8 x 21 cm) and A4 (22 x 30.5 cm).
• Le Portfolio: with hand-stitched pockets for your passport, cards, tickets, pens or smartphone. It also takes standard DIN-size notebooks. Available from us in A6, A5 and A4.
• Le Trifold: the most spacious model, with a flap that wraps around the journal and an inner pocket. It holds up to six notebooks. Available from us in A5.

Refillable: which refill fits?

A Grand Voyageur or a Le Portfolio holds two notebooks with the ribbons included. Add two extra ribbons and it holds four; you will find them in the ribbon kit, with five ribbons in different colours. Le Trifold has three ribbons. The refill size depends on the cover:

• Pocket refills (9.5 x 14 cm) fit the Grand Voyageur Pocket, Le Portfolio A6 and Le Trifold A6.
• XL refills (13.5 x 20 cm) fit the Grand Voyageur XL, Le Portfolio A5 and Le Trifold A5.
• A4 refills fit the Grand Voyageur A4 and Le Portfolio A4.

There are two kinds. The notebook refills have 48 pages of 80 g/m² paper, staple-bound, in plain, ruled, squared or dotted. The book refills have 96 pages of 120 g/m² paper with an open-thread binding, so they lie flat when open. This paper is fountain-pen friendly: no feathering and hardly any bleed-through. Among the book refills you will also find the printed editions by The Dybdahl Co. and drawing books.

Planning with Paper Republic

Because everything is refillable, you can keep a diary and a notebook in the same cover. Among the refills you will find weekly planners for 2027, an academic planner 2026-2027 and a timeless planner. If you like to map out your year and your goals, choose a DoJo Book with 100 g/m² paper (written in English). With Le Loop, a leather pen holder with strong magnets, you always have a pen to hand. Le Loop is made from leather offcuts from the workshop.

How do I look after the leather?

Do not remove marks or pencil lines with soap and water: that can leave a stain on the leather. Vegetable-tanned leather develops its own patina over time; that is part of its character.
