Pelikan Maki-e Four Seasons Lucky Charm Limited Edition Fountain Pen

Maki-e is the timeless and intricate Japanese art of lacquer painting, admired for its elegance and craftsmanship. Detailed motifs are hand-painted onto lacquered surfaces, then dusted with fine powders of gold, silver or platinum that give the work its distinctive brilliance.

The Four Seasons Lucky Charm was created by master artisan Ishikura Mitsuhiro of the Kaga Hōshukai, using the demanding Kaga Togidashi-Takamaki-e technique: layer after layer of lacquer and precious powder is built up on a deep black urushi base and polished by hand, until raised and burnished areas together reveal depth and light.

The design draws on a traditional deck of playing cards, seen through a Japanese lens. Each of the four suits stands for a season: clubs for spring, diamonds for summer, hearts for autumn and spades for winter, together tracing the cycle of the year. Cherry blossoms, flowing water, autumn leaves and snow patterns reinforce that theme, alongside the classic Sayagata and Asanoha patterns, all in a refined interplay of red and black.

Each suit carries an auspicious meaning: diamonds for wealth, hearts for love, clubs for happiness, and spades, long the strongest suit, for courage and resilience. In this way the pen is conceived as a talisman, a wish for a balanced and prosperous life.

The Four Seasons Lucky Charm is built on the iconic M1000 Souverän® model, with a hand-crafted 18-carat gold nib (size M) and 24-carat gold accents. Limited to just 123 pieces worldwide, each individually numbered and signed by the Maki-e artist, and presented in a gift box.
