The Caran d'Ache 849 Mosaic Royal Blue is a Special Edition where the colour and pattern were chosen by the brand's community through an Instagram vote. Royal Blue is the only colour in the Mosaic collection that also appears on the mechanical pencil, which makes it the connecting thread across the whole range. The satin-lacquered body carries a geometric mosaic in a softer pastel blue against the deeper ground colour.
The body is hexagonal aluminium, the same form the 849 has had since its introduction in 1969. Light in the hand, the push mechanism direct and uncomplicated. The deep blue has a density under the satin finish that photographs don't quite capture.
The pen comes fitted with a black Caran d'Ache Goliath medium refill, rated for around 600 pages of writing. It is compatible with all Caran d'Ache Goliath ink refills. It arrives in a printed cardboard case that carries the graphic identity of the Mosaic collection.
