The Caran d'Ache 849 Paul Smith Edition 5 Black Mechanical Pencil carries the same design language as the matching ballpoint: satin-lacquered black aluminium, Paul Smith's Signature Stripes embossed in eight colours, and the designer's signature on face 4. Clip and push crown are matt black chrome-plated throughout, keeping the whole piece visually consistent with the rest of the Edition 5 Black line.
Each press of the crown advances a 0.5mm lead. An eraser is built into the crown itself. The 849 hexagonal form works as well for a mechanical pencil as it does for a ballpoint: light in the hand, solid in use, comfortable over long writing sessions. It writes like a daily tool and looks like something worth keeping.
The pencil is compatible with standard 0.5mm HB graphite leads. It arrives in the same glossy black metal case as the other Edition 5 Black pieces, with the Caran d'Ache + Paul Smith logo on the outside and the Signature Stripes pattern printed on the inner lid.
