The Graf von Faber-Castell Classic Pernambuco Fountain Pen is built around a barrel of Brazilian pernambuco, the same reddish brown wood that violin bow makers rely on for its spring. Fine grooves run the length of the barrel and catch the light along the grain. Slow growth makes this wood dense and hard, and it also means no two barrels are marked quite the same way.
At 37 grams and 137 by 13 mm, the pen sits in the hand with enough weight to feel settled. Its handmade 18 carat bicolour gold nib is run in by hand at the factory. Widths available are EF, F, M and B. Platinum plated accents finish it off.
Filling is done through the cartridge converter system, and the converter comes in the box. Use bottled ink straight away or switch to cartridges when travelling. The pen arrives in a wooden gift box.
