Custom 845

The Pilot Custom 845 stands apart from every other Custom model through two elements that rarely come together in a production pen: a body of ebonite finished with authentic Urushi lacquer, and an 18-karat gold nib. The ebonite gives the pen a pleasing warmth in the hand and absorbs writing vibrations in a way that resin cannot replicate. The Urushi lacquer is applied using the Roiro technique, a refined artisanal method in which thin layers of lacquer are built up and polished one by one to a deep, mirror-like brilliance. This process takes months and yields a surface that resists water, acids, and temperature changes.

The two-tone 18-karat gold nib, size #15, is partially plated with rhodium for a delicate silver accent. This large nib delivers a rich, wet ink flow with a slightly springy writing motion, and is available in Fine, Medium, Broad and Double Broad. The screw-on cap seals hermetically and is lined with a soft material that protects the Urushi finish when the cap is posted. The Custom 845 comes with the CON-70 vacuum converter (1.1 ml) and is also compatible with Pilot IC-50 cartridges.
