On a Classic Lacquer the colour sits in the lacquer itself, not in a print. Coat over coat on a steel barrel, building up to an even shade that catches light without turning into a mirror. Nothing is printed on, so there is nothing to wear off.

Shades run from deep red, kiwi and ice blue through to pink and plain black. One version skips the lacquer altogether and leaves the stainless steel bare, for anyone who wants it quieter. Every colour shares the same dimensions and weight, so picking one is purely about how you want it to look on the desk.

After something with a figure or a story on the barrel? The other ranges sit on the Retro 51 brand page. Replacement refills are under Retro 51 refills.

Frequently asked questions about Classic Lacquer

Does the lacquer wear off?

The colour lives in the lacquer over the steel, not in a printed layer or foil. Daily use in a bag or jacket pocket leaves it intact. The spot where your thumb twists the pen open may go slightly glossier after a few years.

Which colours are available?

The standing colours include red, true blue, ice blue, green, kiwi, pink and black, plus a bare stainless steel version. What is in stock right now is listed above.

How does Classic Lacquer differ from the other Tornados?

Only in finish. The barrel, the twist mechanism and the refill are the same as any other Tornado. The Big Shot is noticeably wider, but that is a different model.
