Tom's Studio is a British family business that began in the garage of founder Tom Gyr's father in law. Tom worked as a product and furniture designer when he noticed his wife Gemma finishing her calligraphy with a cheap plastic pen. He felt it could be better. On an old Myford lathe he turned a first calligraphy pen from Corian and brass. Gemma was won over, friends asked for one too, and in the end Tom and Gemma moved from London to Dorset to work on the brand full time. Tom now designs whole ranges of refillable writing tools, all built on the same idea: gear that lasts a lifetime rather than ending up in the bin after a few weeks. You will find the full Tom's Studio range at Penworld.
The Ori Permanent is the permanent marker in that story. An ordinary permanent marker is endlessly useful, from labelling boxes to pinning down ideas on almost any surface, but it is also made to dry out and be thrown away. The Ori turns that around. A water-based permanent ink and Japanese fibre tips mark firmly on glass, ceramic, wood, metal, packaging and plastic, and they do so without the harsh fumes of a classic marker. Every part, from tip to reservoir to holder, can be swapped out on its own. The Ori comes with bullet tips as standard; brush and highlighter tips are available separately, so the same holder also serves for sketching or marking. At Penworld you will find the Tom's Studio Ori Permanent in matte black and matte midnight.
When the reservoir runs low, top it up with a bottle from the Ori ink range. Alongside permanent ink the Ori also takes highlighter inks, standard fountain pen inks and fibre tip inks. When a tip wears out or you want a different effect, fit a new point from Ori tips. That way an Ori keeps going for years and grows with the way you work.
