Pen Boxes

A pen box keeps your fountain pens apart and in one place. We stock the Elroth boxes for 12 or 24 pens, with a glass lid so the collection stays in view.

Three or four pens fit in a drawer without trouble. Past that they start to shift, roll into each other and mark the caps, and one pen ends up at the bottom untouched for months. A pen box gives each pen a fixed slot with a divider between them, and you can see the whole collection at a glance.

Slot length is the thing to check first. Plenty of boxes are built for standard ballpoints and run 140 to 150 mm. A Montblanc 149 is around 147 mm and a Pelikan M1000 sits just below that, so they either barely fit or do not fit at all. For oversized pens look for slots of 165 mm and up. The glass lid is the second decision: you see the pens without opening anything, but you also let in dust and daylight, so keep the box out of direct sun.

On numbers: most collectors who buy a box for twelve pens are back within a year looking for a second one. A twenty-four with a drawer costs more but lasts you longer. We stock the Elroth pen boxes in Piano Black and Walnut Brown, and they are on display in our Antwerp shop if you want to see them first.
