The Blackwing Volume 292 is a tribute to Keith Haring. The number 292 refers to 292 Lafayette Street in New York, where Haring opened his Pop Shop in 1986. He thought of it as an extension of his work: a place where anyone could walk in and experience his art, including people who would never set foot in a gallery.
Haring started in the early 1980s drawing chalk figures on the black paper covering vacant advertising panels in the New York subway. His dancing figures became a fixture across the city. Even as his work moved into galleries and museums around the world, he continued painting murals for hospitals, schools, and community organizations. Each pencil in this set carries those signature dancing figures on a white background.
The graphite is balanced, comparable to 2B, suited to both writing and sketching. The black square Blackwing ferrule holds a replaceable red eraser. The set comes in a gift box measuring 20.7 x 4.5 x 4.5 cm.
