Caran d'Ache 849 Mosaic Special Edition

The 849 Mosaic started with a question put to the Caran d'Ache community: which colours, which pattern? The answer came through votes on Instagram. Four ballpoint pens came out of it, in Royal Blue, Water Green, Garnet Red and Spruce Green, each carrying a mosaic of stamped geometric shapes in a softer contrasting tone. A Royal Blue mechanical pencil rounds out the collection.

The pen itself is the classic 849: hexagonal aluminium body, light without feeling cheap, solid without being heavy. The satin lacquer finish gives each piece a tactile quality you notice on first hold. Clip and push button are nickel-plated steel. Each colour has its own secondary tone worked into the pattern, pastel blue paired with Royal Blue, soft pink against Garnet Red. These are the small choices that separate a pen that works from one that merely looks the part.

The ballpoint pens come with a black Caran d'Ache Goliath refill, rated for up to 600 pages of writing. They accept all Caran d'Ache Goliath ink refills. The mechanical pencil runs on 0.5 mm HB graphite leads, with an integrated eraser housed in the push button. Every piece arrives in a printed cardboard case that carries the graphic identity of the collection through to the packaging.
