The Gravitas Vac 2.0 Aluminium Black is the next iteration of the Ultemate Vac. The proportions stay close to the original, but nearly every part has been refined. Cap and metal hardware are now in matt black anodised aluminium. A double reservoir ink window runs along the body, so you can keep an eye on the ink levels in both chambers at any moment.
At the heart of this pen sits the Kraken filling system, designed by Ben Walsh. While researching shut off valves for retractable pens, he found his answer in the medical world, specifically in mechanical heart valves. The result is a seal that looks simple and works exceptionally well, behaving more like a heart valve than a traditional Vacuumatic filler. The mechanism is a scaled down version of the system in the larger Gravitas Monster, and gives the Vac 2.0 an ink capacity of over 4.5 ml. Plenty for long writing sessions without refilling.
The section is made of stainless steel with a black PVD coating. That shifts extra weight closer to the nib, which helps the pen sit well in the hand. For this model Gravitas developed a proprietary #6 steel nib, available in EF, F, M and B. The nib has no breather hole and uses a longer cut slit for steady ink flow. The housing and feeder are also proprietary, yet remain compatible with the standard Jowo #6 size for easy swapping. The section unscrews easily for cleaning and maintenance, and inside sits a Delrin sleeve with ACME threads that improves the seal and makes posting the cap more secure.
