The Esterbrook x Crane Mariner Fountain Pen brings a nautical theme to the Estie line. For their first collaboration, Esterbrook and Crane, two American brands with plenty of history, pair the familiar Estie shape with details borrowed from the world of yachting. Teak wood, navy lacquer, gold trim and copper accents set the tone, with sailing, the sea and travel as the starting point. The teak develops its own patina as the years pass.
Inside sits a nib designed specifically for this model, ready for a smooth writing session. Capped, the pen measures around 15.2 cm. Without the cap it comes to 13.2 cm, and 18.4 cm with the cap posted.
The Mariner takes standard international cartridges and a converter, and arrives with a 30 mL bottle of "Sea Blue" ink. There is also a generous gift set: a leatherette pen case, a nautical key ring with a gold compass charm, a carabiner clip, a buoy accessory, a Mariner patch and five sets of Crane stationery hidden in a secret drawer. All of which makes the Mariner an easy pen to give.
