The Sailor Shikiori Waka-taka is a warm brown fountain pen ink from the Noyama-no-Uta range. Waka-taka means young hawk, the bird learning to fly and climb higher. The colour fits: a warm reddish brown leaning towards taupe, quieter than a standard brown and easy to write long stretches with.
The ink gives subtle shading, going darker where the pen lays down more. The Shikiori range is made in Japan by Sailor, a name built mostly on its nibs. It is water based and flows smoothly from most fountain pens.
Each bottle holds 20 ml in an octagonal glass jar that sits neatly on a desk. The Shikiori collection runs to more than twenty colours.
