The Pilot Capless Carbonesque Graphite Red is Pilot's retractable fountain pen in a deep red carbon pattern with silver rhodium trim. A press of the button slides the nib out and back in, with no cap to lose. The pattern looks like carbon fibre, but it takes its cue from Kasuri, a Japanese weaving technique with fine repeated motifs.
The Capless was the first fountain pen with a retractable mechanism and a gold nib. Pilot has built this pen since 1964 and it shows. You write with an 18 carat gold nib with a rhodium finish. The clip sits right where your thumb or finger lands, so the pen settles into your hand on its own, even with the nib at the front. It weighs 30 grams.
The pen fills with Pilot ink cartridges or the included Pilot CON-40 converter, which draws ink from a bottle. The converter is a screw filler with a clear reservoir so you can see how much ink is left. The pen comes in a Pilot gift box.
