The Pilot Capless Graphite Blue is a retractable fountain pen in a deep navy blue with a fine woven pattern and light blue accents. A press of the button slides the nib out and back in, with no cap to lose. The pattern looks like carbon fibre, but it takes its cue from Kasuri, a Japanese weaving technique with fine repeated motifs. The clip, rings and push button have a rhodium finish.
The Capless was the first fountain pen with a retractable mechanism and a gold nib. Pilot has built this pen since 1964 and it shows. You write with an 18 carat gold nib with a rhodium finish, available in fine, medium and broad, and extra fine on request. The pen weighs around 30 grams and the clip sits right where your thumb or finger lands, so it settles into your hand on its own, even with the nib at the front.
The pen ships with a Pilot CON-40 converter, which draws ink from a bottle, and also takes Pilot ink cartridges. The converter is a screw filler with a clear reservoir so you can see how much ink is left. The pen comes in a Pilot gift box.
