Platinum Izumo Takeami Gozame Benikabairo Fountain Pen

The Platinum Izumo Takeami Gozame Benikabairo is a fountain pen that embodies the artistry of traditional Japanese bamboo weaving. For centuries, bamboo has been a vital material in Japanese daily life, valued for its strength, flexibility, and natural beauty. Over time, the weaving of bamboo evolved from practical use into a refined decorative craft, and this pen reflects that legacy in a contemporary form.

Each pen begins with a meticulous preparation of the bamboo. The oil removal process, known as aburanuki, ensures both durability and a natural sheen. Skilled artisans then cut the bamboo into precise strips (arawari), adjust them to even widths (habatori), and dye them with custom-made pigments. The strips are then woven into the distinctive “gozame” pattern, creating a surface rich in rhythm and texture. Finally, a sabiurushi lacquer finish adds depth, enhancing the interplay between light and shadow. The Benikabairo edition, finished in a traditional red tone, highlights subtle layers of color and brings warmth and vibrancy to the refined bamboo surface.

Built around an ebonite core and fitted with an 18K gold nib (available in F, M, and B), the Platinum Izumo Takeami Gozame Benikabairo is both a functional writing instrument and a work of art. Its unique weaving, deep red finish, and luxurious details make it a collector’s piece that celebrates Japanese heritage in every line written.
